Our Vision
Australians protect nature by caring for invertebrates.
Our Mission
To influence conservation action, investigate solutions and inspire engagement as the expert voice for invertebrates to benefit Australian nature and people.
We aim to do this through three key pillars:
Investigate: We discover and deliver the most impactful actions for conserving invertebrates.
Influence: We use our expert voice to advocate for invertebrates to practitioners and decision makers.
Inspire: We engage people with the wonder and importance of invertebrates and their conservation.
Our Values
The following values and the behaviours have been created by the staff and agreed upon by the board of the organisation. These values guide the behaviour of our interactions to our work and each other. We embed these values in our organisational policies, our daily interactions internally and externally and in the performance of our work.
Curiosity
We behave with inquisitive interest by displaying a critical thinking to our own discoveries, as well as when we encounter unconventional thinking in situations of uncertainty, in order to open our minds to opportunities to learn and grow.
Diversity
We embrace variation in all its forms, recognising that strength comes from difference. We actively seek diversity and representation and have zero-tolerance for all kinds of discrimination and abuse. We always strive to recognise our privilege and create systems that benefit people equally.
Truth
We are a science-led organisation, dedicated to improving the way in which invertebrates are valued in government decision making, ecologically recognised, and viewed by the general public. We are data driven, make evidence-based decisions and evaluate success based on measurable outcomes.
Integrity
We have the courage to hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards so that we remain true to our vision and our mission.
Respect
We accept all people for who they are, regardless of their differences, even if we don’t align with their point of view, in order to build trust and a safe space for ideas and creativity.
Collaboration
We work toward a common goal with others by communicating clearly, actively listening to others, engaging thoughtfully and taking responsibility for our part in any interaction so that the shared resources, knowledge and discoveries support our vision for Australian invertebrates.
